By Samuel Kishelev ‘26 Get ready for some more Golda Och sports with the spring season! This season, GOA has a tennis team, baseball team, softball and a newly added track team. Fans are so excited to support the teams and come to games to watch GOA student athletes play. “I am extremely interested in seeing how track meets will work– I believe it is a fantastic addition to our school and I will be taking full advantage of this, going to watch every meet,” said freshman Marley Fischer.
The tennis team is back for another year with a busy schedule ahead, featuring practices and games almost every day. This year, the tennis team is almost entirely freshmen. Although the young team will be playing juniors and seniors in competitions, freshman Brady Gudofsky is still confident saying, “Our team is very strong and I believe we can beat anyone, even seniors.” Spring sports also feature the popular boys baseball and girls softball. The GOA baseball team, also known as the “Dinger Boys,” is led by Coach Stern. The players have been excited for the season all year round, as freshman Simeon Migdal said, “I am really excited for the season. Baseball is my favorite sport and I am very excited to play baseball at GOA.” Our girls softball team is just as promising, finishing with a 5-3 record and scoring 27 runs in one game last year. The newest feature to spring sports is track and field, led by Coach Candela. While GOA has a cross-country team in the fall, track is different, focusing only on short races going up to 800 meters (a half mile). GOA will compete in the Yeshiva League for track and will have meets on Sundays outdoors in Leonia or Teaneck and indoors in Staten Island. Coach Candela said, “I am excited to initiate a Track & Field program at GOA. When I was a Sophomore at Heschel, my classmates and I founded their first Track team, and I am excited to offer students the same opportunity here. What I find separates Track from other sports is that although teammates train together and support one another throughout the season like any other sport, students are challenged to test their own physical limits and ultimately compete with themselves individually.” We wish all student athletes good luck in the spring season and we hope that, no matter what happens, you have fun. Go Roadrunners!
