By Tali Herbert ‘27 October 7th marks a tragic day for Israel and Jewish people around the world. It was a day of extreme and unexpected violence. October 7th, 2024 marked the first anniversary of this devastating day. This day will be forever etched in the minds of the Jewish people and all those who have been affected. In the days leading up to this anniversary, communities across Israel and the world gathered to honor the lives that were lost and remember the tragedies Israel faced that day.
All around Europe, leaders mourned the victims of October 7th and showed support for Israel, along with the Australian Prime Minister and President Joe Biden. In Italy, Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, who has voiced strong support for Israel, visited the main synagogue in Rome to commemorate the anniversary of October 7th. Additionally, he proclaimed, again, his support for Israel to defend itself. French Prime Minister Emmanuel Macron, posted on social media to mark the anniversary of this tragedy and met with some of the family members of the hostages in Paris that day. In addition, France’s Foreign Minister, Jean-Noël Barrot, visited the site of the Nova Festival and attended a memorial service held there. He spoke to the families of victims and continued to reaffirm France’s support for Israel.
