By Nate Lustig ‘26 The Golda Och Boys Soccer team made history this season by winning their division, the first time the team has accomplished this remarkable feat. The squad finished undefeated in the SEC- National division with a perfect 4-0 record, securing decisive victories against University HS, Weequahic HS, Newark Collegiate HS, and Eagle Academy.
This impressive run has solidified their place in the school’s record books as champions. Returning from paternity leave this year, Coach David Usher led the team the whole season. Reflecting on the team’s success, Coach Usher said, “I am incredibly proud of what they have achieved this season and hope for more success in the future.” The team's offensive strength was largely due to Juniors Sam Sharret and Josh Berelowitz, who dominated the scoreboard with 13 and 10 goals, respectively. “It’s great to be part of such a successful season and know that the legacy of this team will be remembered,” Sharret said, highlighting the pride and unity among the players. The team’s three senior captains, Solomon Langer, Josh Raskin, and Brandon Sternthal, played crucial roles in this historic season. Junior midfielder Leam Bilik praised the captains, saying, “Our seniors are the backbone of our team, and replacing them next season is going to be difficult.” Raskin, the team’s starting goalie, was a force to be reckoned with, recording a grand 101 saves throughout the season. The Boys Soccer Team’s incredible season has set a high standard for future players, establishing a lasting legacy and inspiring the next chapter in the team’s history. With Coach Usher at the helm and a solid core of returning players, the team is poised for even greater achievements in the seasons to come. Winning the division granted Golda Och promotion to the much more difficult SEC - Liberty division next year, so it is important that our future soccer stars step up. Comments are closed.
