Because we as a species have to be reducing our emissions by a sizable portion for the next decade if we are to be net zero by 2050, the year of 2021 was required to be a climate focused one. Although some governments ultimately did not deliver on key steps needed, there were numerous international talks and negotiations. Despite government inaction, there was movement on other fronts.

Golda Och Academy’s newly reorganized Climate Activism Club is starting something big this year. The Climate Activism Club is beginning a series of meetings and negotiations with the school’s Board of Directors, working to convince the school to divest from fossil fuels. This development is months in the making, and is also deeply tied to the club’s role as a chapter of the Jewish Youth Climate Movement. By Rachel Max ’24
Build Back Better is a bill first introduced in September of 2021, which has been stalling in the U.S. Senate the past few months. The bill requests 1.75 trillion dollars to invest in creating a brighter future by rebuilding the infrastructure of many systems. |
