Feb. 5 could have been a day of reckoning for former President Donald Trump – and for the country. His second impeachment trial was already historic: it was the only time in US history that a president was tried a second time for high crimes and misdemeanors. It was also unique because the subject was no longer in office when he stood trial, and he could have been locked up for his crimes.

In 2016, Donald Trump’s motto was “Make America Great Again.” Assuring everyone watching that it was his priority, he would do anything he saw fit to do so. This motto not only took on a life of its own but crippled almost all foreign relationships that America had taken hundreds of years to build. The world watched as many felt America’s leaders displayed hypocrisy, arrogance and disrespect. By Daniel Shapiro’23
The modern world has seen an increase in the number of ways society consumes information, with the internet becoming the greatest source. With that constant influx of news comes the side effect of knowing so much. We see the vast array of difficult problems we face, and that feeling can be numbing and disheartening. With the advent of technology, and the internet in particular, we are constantly bombarded with negative information. This can reasonably lead to a sense of dread, that if not properly managed could lead to crippling apathy. By Jesse Berkowitz ‘24
“God is dead. God remains dead. And we have killed him. How shall we comfort ourselves, the murderers of all murderers?” -Friedrich Nietzche Quite the quote indeed, but what does it mean? Friedrich Nietzche was a late 1800’s philosopher who claimed that God had died. Nietzche recognized that humanity as a whole was turning away from the morals of the Bible, and claimed that we were either doomed to perish, or would be forced to create our own morals. But what kind of morality will mankind create, and if we do not have religion dictating our moral code, what will guide our morals? |
