The Golden Ochtaves’ Grammy Awards

Last month Golda Och Academy hosted the Grammy Awards alongside the annual senior send-off. Several members of the Golden Ochtaves received an impressive variety of prestigious awards, with all five GOA nominees earning trophies.

Junior Hannah Weisz, received “Most Emotionally Charged Alto.” Her mastery of the monotonous singular note with very slight variation stole the performance at this year's concert.
“When that C note shifted to a D flat? Not a dry eye in the house,” commented Golden Ochtaves superfan Arielle Karni.
Next up was Yehonatan Ashkenazi, winning the “Best Performance of a Last-Minute Learned Part” award. When he walked through the gym doorway, he was met with a dangerously intense crowd crush of uproarious anticipaticants to his arrival.
“For about a full minute, I couldn’t breathe,” revealed the singer while swatting off devoted fans attempting to collect hair samples. “All I could hear was: ‘you’re here! Oh thank God! And you know this song? Yes!’ Like, I’m a regular guy just like the rest of you. I put my pants on one leg at a time, and then beatbox at record-breaking speeds.”
While the vast majority of Grammy attendants were overcome with joy, some were confused by his performance.
Golden Ochtaves director Craig Resmovits simply asked, “Wait, Yoni is still in choir?”
The next award was a particularly special one, as it was given to the two senior members in the Golden Octaves, Ilan Rekem and Sophie Indiana. The two performed “Best Part” by Daniel Caesar. Sadly, however, this was their last performance at Golda Och Academy, deeming it only suitable that they received the “Lifetime Achievement” award.
“Okay, I get it, you’re sad that we’re leaving!” exclaimed Ilan. “But come on, the tears flooded the room so much that my guitar has water damage. Not cool.”
    “Wahhhhhhhhh!” added Sophie.
Last but not least, the high school choir director, Juliana Lynch, received a well deserved award for “Best Choir Director” after months of hard work behind the scenes to get everyone to show up, learn their parts and create a beautiful combined sound.
This year’s Grammy Award ceremony has been quite a special one with five winners from our own Golden Octaves. Congratulations to all the award winners and good luck in the future. Please note that any Golda Och student can win a Grammy by joining the High School or Middle School choirs!
