Why Middle School Should Be Allowed In High School Clubs

By Daniel Gutnick ‘27

Recently, students from grades six through eight have been requesting that middle school students be able to participate in any and all high school extracurricular activities. This demand is not for comedic purposes, nor is it to be taken lightly.
Yesterday, I sat down to discuss this topic with an anonymous sixth-grade student.
“Just because we aren’t as mature or qualified as students in high school shouldn’t lead anyone to believe that we aren’t still capable of great things. We, as students and as humans, excel in many things, each more different than the last. But I promise you this: we are capable.”
This was not the first attempt to enter high school clubs, as these issues have been touched upon in past years.
Yes, this was a very short article, but serious all the same.
So listen to our request, though aggressive. And like the anonymous sixth-grade student said, “we are capable.”
