By Natty Bitran ‘22 Superbowl MVP and seven-time Superbowl winner Tom Brady found himself getting backlash after an incident at one of the Superbowl parties after the Buccaneers’ win. At Hillsborough River in Tampa, Brady and a few others were partying on a boat when Brady decided to throw the Vince Lombardi trophy to a boat trailing him. Brady grabbed the trophy and tossed it over the river to a separate boat carrying some of his teammates, who were obviously also partying. All party attendees cheered in joy and laughter at the fanatical decision by Brady. Unfortunately, one outside party, Lorraine Grohs was not at all amused by this move. The daughter of Greg Grohs, the original designer of the first Lombardi trophy, claims that Brady’s actions were disrespectful and disgraceful towards her father.
Grohs claims that she was so disturbed by this that she had not slept in two days following the infamous throw. Grohs says that this trophy is made with such delicacy and difficulty and requires a ton of work from the craftsmen who make the trophy. Thus, she believes the trophy must be treated with only the utmost care and requests an apology from Brady. Grohs says that she expects Brady to apologize to not only her, but the workers, the fans, and to other team players. After the incident, Brady appeared on “The Late Late Show With James Corden” and discussed the topic. Brady claims that the throw was out of pure instinct, and at the time, seemed like a good idea. Brady also admits that he was drunk at the time, which can be confirmed from the numerous viral videos of Brady stumbling off his boat after the parade with his arm around a friend’s shoulder. Countless new memes and tweets arose from this viral topic, and Grohs seems to be left in the dust. Over much backlash and taunting to both sides, mostly towards Grohs, Brady is yet to apologize, and it does not appear that he will ever do so. Comments are closed.
