By Henry Sacks ‘26 The new Golda Och Academy Golf Club is up and running! In order to make this club possible, Golda Och has partnered with Essex County Country Club (ECCC) located in West Orange, N.J. Within the first two weeks of club meetings, GOA athletes have worked on the fundamentals of chipping, putting, and driving.
Essex County has tapped two PGA-certified instructors to teach the GOA students. The two golf pros, Jason Poyner and Kyler Leeper, have developed personal relationships with every golfer so far. “After only two weeks, I feel like I already have learned so much about the golf game and elements of my swing that I can improve on,” said freshman Brandon Schall. Recently, Leeper and Poyner took the students to the club’s lower-level driving range where Poyner went over the correct posture for a golf swing and the three lateral movements of the body. “Jason always shows up with a positive attitude to our lessons which has helped enhance my experience with the GOA Golf Club so far,” said Freshman Brady Gudofsky. After two weeks of the ECCC pros evaluating the participant's golf skills, they now plan to split the students into two groups. The golfers with more experience will start to focus on specific elements of the game such as sand shots and situational shots. Golfers with less experience will continue to work on the fundamentals of the golf club swing. "The formation of a GOA Golf Club is a welcome addition to the school's offerings. Not only is the game of golf fun and challenging but the skill sets necessary to navigate the game and its culture often prove to be exceedingly useful throughout life both on and off the course,” said GOA parent Dr. Eric Sacks. Golf etiquette is an important element of the game that all players must have in order to be successful in their golf careers. The GOA Golf Club remains eager to get back onto the course each week and continue to work on their golf game. Comments are closed.
