Antisemitism on Campus Series: Alexis Fulop ‘22

A freshman at the University of Indiana, Alexis Fulop ‘22 graduated from Golda Och Academy after attending the school virtually her entire life. Being in a Jewish environment her entire schooling experience, Fulop has attempted to keep Judaism a core part of her life while attending college. However, she has had to endure bigotry along the way.

Fulop attended high holiday services at Hillel and Chabad and regularly enjoys shabbat dinner at Chabad. She finds the community Chabad and Hillel provide incredibly meaningful, and enjoys spending time with her friends during Shabbat. 
Known to have a large Jewish population, Fulop met many new Jewish friends at Indiana and her faith and identity have become of paramount importance to her. 
However, despite Indiana’s thriving Jewish community, antisemitism is not uncommon. One of Fulop’s friends had a swastika drawn on her whiteboard in her room. 
Although the situation was dreadful, Fulop still feels safe at Indiana. “We should never lose hope and always be happy that we are Jewish, and embrace it,” she said.
For current GOA students looking at colleges, Fulop gives a final piece of advice: “Know that there is a Jewish community out there you can always be a part of.”
